"She'd be doing better if she wasn't in jail," said Sheldon Sorosky, the defendant's attorney, when asked the status of Even, who was not brought into court on Wednesday.

The 47-year-old woman allegedly forged four checks under the name of a Fox River Grove resident at Chase Bank, 45 Green Bay Rd.

According to Sorosky, Even will plead not guilty at the arraignment on Dec. 12.

"There is no dispute as to what occurred, the issue is the intent," he said, explaining that Even did not intend to steal when she wrote the checks.

Glencoe Deputy Chief Al Kebby said that Even committed a white-collar felony by forging the checks.
