Child Bicyclist Collides with Van at Hibbard Road and Hackberry Lane

Police confirmed that the 10-year-old bicyclist had minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital.

A bicyclist collided with a van at the intersection of Hibbard Road and Hackberry Lane in Winnetka on Tuesday morning, according to .

At 8:10 a.m., a 10-year-old boy from Winnetka was riding his bike to when a traffic crash occurred with a full-size Chevy van.

The driver of the van, a 58-year-old Chicago resident, was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian.

The bicyclist was not taken to hospital, and a parent was on the scene to tend to minor injuries, according to police.

Police said that the boy was wearing a helmet.

"The helmet was absolutely helpful," said Deputy Police Chief Joseph Pellus. "It certainly provided him an additional safety that wouldn't have been there otherwise."
