For 19th Issue, Winnetka Ornament Features Saints Faith, Hope and Charity Parish

Phototronics, at 740 Elm St., produces the 2011 Winnetka ornament.

Looking for an easy holiday gift? Consider the annual Winnetka ornament, which features a different Winnetka building each year.

This year the Saints Faith, Hope and Charity Parish was chosen because the Catholic institution is celebrating its 75th anniversary. It is also the fourth in a series of churches, according to Winnetka resident and producer Betty Skalski.

Skalski sells the handmade ornaments at Phototronics, 740 Elm St., and said this is the 19th installment of ornaments. Each one costs $42, of which $25 dollars is tax-deductible. Part of the sale is donated to the Winnetka Village Holiday Lighting Fund.

"Our first ornament was the "Home Alone" house on Lincoln, as the movie had just come out two years before in 1990," she said. "It is still the most coveted of all the issues because once an ornament is made, when it's gone it's gone."

Skalski did note that the ornament is produced each year for new students.
