Alex Parker has covered community news and politics since 2007. As a general assignment and education reporter for the Lawrence (KS) Journal-World, he covered the Lawrence school system, and reported on topics including how the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan affect students at schools in Junction City, Kan., the home of the 1st Infantry Division. He embedded with the 1st Infantry Division as it trained for an Iraq deployment at Fort Irwin, Calif. He also covered youth and politics in Kansas during the 2008 election for MTV News. Most recently, Alex covered public health for the Chi-Town Daily News and Cook County government for the Chicago Current. His work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune and the Huffington Post. A native of Kansas City, Mo., he went to college at Miami University and pursued a master's degree in journalism from the University of Kansas.
