Free New Year’s Eve Fun Skate

Here’s your last opportunity in 2013 for the whole family to skate at the Winnetka Ice Arena (490 Hibbard Road). The Fund Skate will be held on Tuesday, December 31 from 7:00-9:00 pm with cookies and cocoa being served. Skate rental is $3, but quantities are limited. Girls in the Know Mother/Daughter Speaker Series

Through education and inspiration, the Girls in the Know Mother-Daughter Speaker Series provides a powerful solution to the challenges facing parents raising teens in today’s culture. The program delivers ways to connect and support mothers and daughters during these transitional and transformative years.

Designed to educate and empower mothers and their pre-teen daughters who are between the ages of 9-12, the program runs as an interactive speaker series led by a group of female professionals, including a social worker, a nutritionist, a gynecologist, and a police officer.  The speakers focus on issues such as promoting positive self-esteem, friendships, healthy body image, nutrition, cell phone and internet safety, puberty, and many other important topics that will encourage pre-teen girls to make positive choices as they mature into adulthood.

 

The Winnetka Park District will be offering this speaker series on Tuesday, January 7 and 14 from 6:30-8:30 pm at the Community Room, 540 Hibbard Road.  Fee is $160 for resident couples and $180 for non residents couples.  Additional girls are $30 for residents and $35 for non residents.  Advanced registration is required through the Winnetka Park District, 540 Hibbard Road or online at www.winpark.org using activity number 441597.  For more information contact the Winnetka Park District at 847-501-2040.

Girls Hip Hop and Boys Breakdancing

Chicago Loves Dance is proud to bring the art of dance directly to the Winnetka Park District. Under the creative direction of skilled Chicago Loves Dance instructors, students in 1st-3rd grade will learn choreography to newest pop/dance songs. Chicago Loves Dance runs on the philosophy that dance should open your child’s creative abilities and be FUN! We pride ourselves on teaching the self-esteem and socialization needed in everyday life through the activity of dance and performance.

 

Classes will meet on Wednesdays beginning January 8 through March 26 at the Skokie School Gym.  Girls will be from 5:15-6:15 pm and boys will meet from 6:15-7:15 pm.  Fee is $180 for residents and $210 for non residents. Emergency Preparedness Nature Workshop

Children 6 ½ - 11 years can learn the best and most important items to keep at the ready in the event of an emergency. This workshop will help you get your ‘go-pack’ set and offer vital information about the keys to survival in the event you need to leave your home… or stay in! Topics include food, water, radios, lights, and shelter.  This LL Bean workshop presented by the Winnetka Park District will be held on Tuesday, January 7 from 4:15-5:15 pm at the Community Room, 540 Hibbard Road.  Fee is $10 with advanced registration is required through the Winnetka Park District, 540 Hibbard Road or online at www.winpark.org using activity number 441521.  For more information contact the Winnetka Park District at 847-501-2040.
