Hot Doug's Owner to Speak in Winnetka

Great Pumpkin Day: Its the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! Come celebrate autumn with the Glencoe Parks Department. There will be food, games and plenty of pumpkins. The event is set for 10 a.m. through 3 p.m. at Kalk Park, with a rain date of Oct. 13. More information is available here.

Free Open Gym: With no school Monday, help your kids run off some of that extra energy at the Skokie School's free open gym on Monday. Supervision will be provided. Kindergarten through third graders can come between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., and 4th through 8th graders can come 1 p.m. through 3 p.m. More information is available here.

Free Concert at the Rock House: The Tum Balalaika Band will perform a free set at the Rock House in Wilmette on Saturday from 8 p.m. until 10 p.m. Spend your night with some great music, and take advantage of the Rock House's great menu of drinks and snacks while you're there! Madama Butterfly Lyric Opera Lecture: Why go all the way to Chicago to see opera when the opera will come to you?! Kip Kelley will be giving an overview of Madama Butterfly, as well as biographical information and highlights, at the Winnetka Library Lloyd Room on Oct. 13 from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. More information is available here

Hot Doug's, The Book: Calling all hot dog lovers! Famed restaurant Hot Doug's head chef Doug Sohn has written a book on the history of hot dogs, his restaurants and the many, many people who love them. Hot dog samples will be served! The event is set for Sunday at 3 p.m. at The Book Stall. More information is available here
