Summer Nights Kick-Off at Hubbard Woods Park

New event to be held this evening will feature a variety of vendors at a farmers' market and live music, hosted by the Winnetka Park District, Winnetka-Northfield Chamber of Commerce and BMO Harris Bank.

If you’re looking for an outdoor event to enjoy the summer air tonight, swing by Hubbard Woods Park to shop at a new Farmers’ Market and take in some live entertainment by the New Invaders.

The Winnetka-Northfield Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Winnketka Park District, and will be hosting the first of three ‘Summer Nights’ events, featuring a number of vendors from the Northfield Farmers’ Market.

“For the last few years, Winnetka residents have requested their own Farmers’ Market, like Northfield’s, which has been so successful for more than 30 years,” said Terry Dason, executive director of the the Winnetka-Northfield Chamber of Commerce.

Among the vendors-some who if you patronize the Northfield Farmers’ Market-will be familiar, are:

  • Candy Bouquet-true to their name, offering a variety of candy items
  • Klug Orchards/Green Organics-selling flower and herb varieties, in addition to green vegetables (in season) and organic strawberries and apricots
  • Organo Gold Coffee-gourmet organic coffee
  • Piece of Mind Food-gluten free bakery items
  • Red Barn Farm Market-variety of fresh vegetables, herbs and in season melons
  • Smart Gardener Backyard-consults on how to grow an organic garden of your own in your yard

Several businesses located in the Hubbard Woods Business District will also be staying open later for shoppers, and will be identifiable by teal balloons placed outside of their shops and stores.

Tonight’s event will be followed by two more on Wednesday evenings this summer; a second will be held July 18 and the final on August 15.

“To have the Wednesday Farmers' Market allows shoppers to buy additional fresh items to last the rest of the week,” Dason said.

The park district and chamber of commerce are testing the event to see how successful it is.

“Our hope is this becomes a standing event,” Dason said.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket to lay out on the grass and enjoy the music before or after shopping at the market.

Food also will be provided by Grand Food Center.

The farmer's market will be held tonight at Hubbard Woods Park from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. The music starts at 7 p.m. and runs until 8 p.m.

Live music by the New Invaders will be stationed at the park on Green Bay Road and Gage Street, while the Farmers’ Market will be set up at the portion of the park near Green Bay Road and Merrill.
