New Trier Basketball Teams Bounce Back From Losses

The latest news, notes and results from New Trier sports.

Boys Basketball: has rebounded well from its lone loss of the season to No. 2 Warren. The Trevians won back-to-back games over Central Suburban League South opponents, defeating Niles West and Glenbrook South convincingly.

New Trier will play in the ultra-competitive Proviso West Holiday Tournament after Christmas Day. The Trevians are slotted to take on Fenwick in the opening round on Dec. 27.

Girls Basketball: After back-to-back losses in the CSL South, New Trier righted the ship with a 55-33 victory against Deerfield in a conference crossover game. Brigit Ieuter had 11 points to lead New Trier while Maggie Lyon chipped in 10. Emma Rossi returned from an injury to score nine points in her first game of the season.

New Trier plays Regina Dominican in the first round of the Dundee-Crown Charger Classic holiday tournament on Dec. 26.

Hockey: New Trier Green defeated the Providence Celtics 8-2 on Dec. 15. Sam Kurgan and Danny Zalesky each had two goals for the Trevians. Joe Talbot had 18 saves in goal to get the victory.

The win came two days after Green edged Prairie Ridge 4-3. Kurgan had two goals for New Trier and Chris Deaver and Danny Walcott also had goals. Talbot made 22 saves for the win in net.

Girls Gymnastics: New Trier won its most recent dual meet against Evanston 138.80 – 127.20 on Dec. 13. Elana Benishay won the all-around competition with a score of 35.2 and took first place on vault (9.4). Sam Stoddart was first on uneven bars (8.5) and Claire Egerter was the winner on balance beam (9.4).

Wrestling: New Trier took third as a team at the Hoffman Estates Hawks Invitational on Dec. 10. John Benson won the championship in the 220-pound division while Colin Kenyon (106) and Arash Ghafouri (126) both finished in second.
