Family Geocaching Adventure

June is officially Leave No Child Inside month! The Chicago Wilderness Leave No Child Inside initiative promotes a culture in which children enjoy and are encouraged to be outside in nature. As a result they are healthier, have a sense of connection to their environment, and become supporters and stewards of local nature. Glencoe Park District is joining in this growing movement to give our young residents a break from television and computers and encourage them to get outside! We are hosting the first annual Family Geocaching Adventure in Shelton Park.

It’s been likened to a “high tech egg hunt.” The beauty of it is that you get to enjoy the environment, see new places, and have quality time with your family and friends, all while looking for “treasure.” Participate in a family-friendly version of geocaching in your own backyard! We’ll give you the “coordinate locations” starting in Shelton Park, and then you’re off to do modern day treasure hunting in the surrounding neighborhood and Green Bay Trail. Geocaching is not a game of finders keepers; the goal is to find the object and then put it back so that another geocacher can find it! After the hunt we’ll meet back at Shelton Park to exchange stories and enjoy a BBQ picnic lunch.
