Centennial Ice Rink to Reopen Oct. 12

The grand opening will include free skate, family activities and prizes.

Centennial Ice Rinks in Wilmette will hold a Grand Reopening on Sat. Oct. 12. A ribbon cutting will be held at 6:45 p.m., with a free public skate — along with family activities, prizes and giveaways — will follow from 7:30 until 9:30 p.m.

Centennial Ice Rink was closed on April 24 for a complete revamp, including a replacement of the ice refrigeration system and piping under both rinks. Parts of the rink were also repainted and new carpet was installed.

Over 500 hockey skaters and 3,000 figure skaters are taught at the facility each year, and the rink is used by the Wilmette Hockey Association, New Trier High School Hockey Club, Loyola Academy Hockey Club, Loyola University Hockey Club, Wilmette Cougars Women's Hockey Club, Tom McDaniels Adult Hockey and the Hockey North America Adult Hockey League.

The rink is also the home rink for U.S. Figure Skating Champions Tomoki Hiwatashi and Eric Steinhart.
