Winnetka Council Approves $2.2M Stormwater Tunnel

The tunnel will be about 7,900 feet and run from Glendale Avenue to Lake Michigan.

Winnetka's village council voted to approve a $2.2 million engineering contract to design a stormwater drain and tunnel connecting Winnetka's west side and the Lake Michigan, Medill reports. The tunnel is part of Winnetka's $34.5 million floodwater discharge project, which will eventually divert stormwater directly into Lake Michigan.

The tunnel will be about 7,900 feet and run from Glendale Avenue to the lake, according to Medill. The project will likely be done by 2017, and focus solely on winnetka's storm sewer system, not sanitary sewers.
