Mishap Leads Park District to Clear Playground Equipment at Glencoe's Friends Park

A boy fell through a step at the park's biggest piece of playground equipment on Oct. 15.

After a boy fell through a playground equipment at Glencoe’s Friends Park, the park district is seeking to replace the 15-foot tall apparatus in March 2013, according to Glencoe News.

The whole set of playground equipment at the park at Vernon Avenue and Tudor Court was originally slated to be replaced in mid 2013. Glencoe Park District moved up the replacement date after a 13-year-old fell five feet through a step on the playground equipment on Oct. 15.

Park district employees told Glencoe News that they noticed serious rot on two smaller pieces of the playground equipment in September but not the larger equipment. Heavy rain over the weekend of Oct. 13 could have accelerated deterioration on the larger playground equipment, park staff told Glencoe News.
