Zero Tolerance Arrest Made After Car Flips Over

The following reports were provided by the Northfield Police Department. Arrests and charges are accusations, and do not guarantee guilt.

Zero Tolerance
On Jan. 26, responding officers found a rollover accident on the 1800 block of Willow Road, and a witness reported the car had struck a construction rail before flipping on it's passenger side, according to police. At the scene, an unknown good samaritan was helping the vehicle's driver exit the car through the driver side, police say. 

Officers charged Malcolm S. Ostrenga, 20, of Northbrook, with impaired driving due to alcohol, illegal possession and consumption of alcohol by a minor, illegal transportation of alcohol by a minor and improper lane usage, according to police.  

DUI
On Jan. 26, an officer was patrolling area businesses when he heard a car engine revving loudly, police say. The officer located the vehicle, and found the driver on the 1700 block of Mt. Pleasant Street, and he appeared to be DUI, according to the police report. The officer charged Samuel R. Smith, 31, of Northfield, with DUI, illegal transportation of alcohol. no proof of insurance, failure to use a turn signal and improper lane usage, according to police. 

Theft
On Jan. 25, an officer saw a Chevy Suburban parked at a construction site on the 500 block of Waukegan Road with its back doors open and construction equipment and metal pieces inside, according to police. The officer talk to the Chevy owner who admitted he probably shouldn't be taking anything from the site, police say. The officer called the construction site's manager, who said no one had permission to take anything, and declined to press charges if the man returned anything he took from the site, according to the police report.

Suspended License
On Jan. 25, officers charged Emil D. Iliev, 24, of Des Plaines, with driving while using an electronic device, driving with a suspended license and driving without proper insurance, according to police. 

No Driver's License
On Jan. 22, officers charged Bonifacio G. Gomez, 44, of Chicago, with operating a vehicle without signal lamps and driving without a license, according to police.
