Winnetka Blotter: $500 Bike Theft, Identity Theft, Warrant Arrest

Suspicious power in mail

A resident in the 1000 block of Oak Street reported receiving an envelope in the mail on July 27 that contained a suspicious white powdery substance. Winnetka Fire Department responded with the police to field test the substance for any hazardous compounds and the tests came out negative. 

Bike theft

An unsecured woman’s bike valued at $500 was stolen from the basement storage area of a building in the 500 block of Chestnut Street between July 2 and 5. 

Skin cleansing kit theft

A skin cleansing kit and cosmetics were stolen from an office in the 400 block of Winnetka Avenue on Aug. 8. The loss was estimated at $145. 

Identity theft

A resident in the 800 block of Lamson Drive reported on Aug. 6 that someone used his personal information to open several credit card accounts. The amount of loss is unknown at this time. 

A resident in the 0 block of Golf lane reported that someone attempted to withdraw money from an out-of-state Chase bank with a driver’s license and credit card bearing the his personal information between July 26 and 30. An unauthorized purchased was also made at Macy during that same period. The loss is estimated at $826. 

Traffic arrests

Yuliana Carrillo, 23, of 6025 Francisco, Chicago, was arrested Aug. 7 for driving without a valid driver’s license and cited for improper lighting following a traffic stop in the 1300 block of Willow Road. She was issued a Sept. 4 court date. 

Charles E. Cohn, 18, of 505 Provident Ave., Winnetka, was arrested Aug. 9 for driving under the influence of alcohol and cited for speeding following a traffic stop in the 200 block of Green Bay Road. He was issued a Sept. 11 court date. 

Warrant arrest

Guillermo Sanchez, 38, of 2057 Tripp, Chicago, was arrested Aug. 11 on a warrant from Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department. The arrest was made following an investigation of an illegally parked vehicle in the alleyway. Sanchez was issued an Aug. 13 court date.
