Northfield Police Blotter: Theft, DUI and Underage Drinking

Theft

A Northfield parent visited New Trier High School's main office with her child on July 24 to report the theft of a Kindle Fire valued at $230. When the parent asked her child about its whereabouts, the child responded that it had been missing since March.

On July 25, an employee working in Northfield Plaza left her iPhone on her desk around 4:30 p.m. When she came back, it was gone. The phone was valued at $217.

Fields Volvo, 770 W. Frontrage Rd., reported on July 27 that sometime in the past few months, one of their dealer license plates either fell off a vehicle or was stolen and is now in use. The case is under investigation.

The owner of a house in the 200 block of Dickens Road, which had been rented out for the past two years, reported that $2,126 worth of furniture and appliances had been removed from the home. The homeowner discovered it after his tenants moved out on July 27.

Driving under the influence of alcohol

Police stopped a 20-year-old woman from Evansville, Ind., around 2 a.m. on July 29 for disobeying a stop sign at the eastbound exit of I-94 and Willow Road. She was also driving 50 mph in a 35-mph zone. She failed the field sobriety test, and officers discovered three cans of unopened beer in the back seat of her car. She was cited for having a blood-alcohol content of more than .08 and possessing alcohol as a minor. She was released on a $3,000 i-bond and issued an Aug. 22 court date.

Underage drinking

Police received a call on July 26 about someone yelling in the 200 block of Shadowood Lane. When they arrived they found they found a 20-year-old Northfield man running around. He had a strong alcoholic odor and was given a local ordinance violation. He was issued an Aug. 23 court date.

Criminal damage to property

Initials were carved in the fresh concrete at the corner of Avon Avenue and Stockton Drive sometime between July 27 and 29. The damage was estimated at $300 to re-pour the concrete.

Animal bite

A Northfield man and woman competing in the Middlefork Tennis Club triathlon on July 28, were bitten on the legs by two dogs, a Border Collie and a Shih Tzu, in the 700 block of Happ Road. The owner, also a Northfield resident, was cited for dogs running at large, second-offense dog bite and third-offense dog bite ($300).

No valid driver's license

Police stopped a 35-year-old Chicago man around 11:45 p.m. on July 25 for driving with only one headlight. They also found that he had no valid driver's license. He was released on a $1,500 i-bond and issued a Aug. 22 court date.

Just before midnight on July 30, a 35-year-old Glenview man was stopped at the corner of Willow and Waukegan for driving with only one functioning headlight. He also didn't have a driver's license. Police released him on a $1,500 i-bond and he was issued an Aug. 22 court date.
