Northfield Police Blotter: Theft and Driving Infractions

Theft - A resident reported that a jacket, a netbook computer and an iPad were all stolen from the Am Yisrael synagogue. The items were estimated at value of $769.99.

Friday, Dec. 2

DUI - pulled up behind a black Nissan Altima about 6:50 a.m. in the northbound left-turn lane at the stoplight at Willow and Happ Roads. The car failed to proceed during three separate cycles of the light turning green. Officers approached the car, and found four occupants—all asleep. After considerable effort, they woke the driver, a 29-year-old Waukegan man, and noticed the strong odor of alcohol, as well as an open bottle of Corona beer in the center console. They also found cannabis in his pocket, according to the report. He was cited for driving under the influence, disobeying a traffic signal, illegal transport of open alcohol and possession of marijuana. He was released on a $3,000 bond and given a court date of Jan. 20.

Monday, Dec. 5

Suspended driver's license - After a traffic accident at Willow Road and Walnut Street, police discovered that one of the drivers' licenses was suspended. The 28-year-old Winnetka man had an alcohol monitoring device installed in his car (that he had to blow into, proving there was no alcohol in his blood, before he could drive). He had previously received a DUI and was allowed to drive on a permit, under the stipulation of the monitoring device. His permit expired Oct. 18, and he had applied for an extension but hadn't paid the associated $98 fee. He posted a $1,500 bond and a Jan. 3 court date.
