Northfield Police Blotter: Four Times the Legal Limit and a Wanted Man

From a very drunk man behind the wheel to a wanted man caught in Northfield, these are the most interesting police reports from last week.

Harassing Calls to a Spa

Wednesday, Aug. 29 at 8:29 a.m.
Employees at on Waukegan Road called police Wednesday morning after an odd customer continued to call the business. The police report indicates that the client was harassing the salon workers repeatedly on the phone, so police intervened and solved the issue.

Four Times the Legal Limit

Wednesday, Aug. 29 at 8:21 p.m.
Northfield police pulled over 49-year-old Mario Ruiz-Serna Wednesday night for a traffic error, but soon found out the man was heavily under the influence of alcohol. According to the report, the Beach Park resident made an illegal turn into a one-way alley near Central Avenue and Ash Street prompting police to move in.

Police learned Ruiz-Serna not only failed to have car insurance, but also had a alcohol content of more than four times the legal limit. After officers completed a field sobriety test, his blood alcohol content came in at 0.334. The legal driving limit is 0.08. Ruiz-Serna was given three citations and is currently out on bond waiting for his Oct. 19 court date.

Smashed Car Window

Thursday, Aug. 30 at 11:36 a.m.
Northfield police responded to a call at on Frontage Road on Thursday after someone damaged one of their work vehicles. According to the report, someone smashed the side window of a vehicle in the parking lot sometime between Aug. 29 and 30, causing roughly $200 in damage. A small, round golf ball-sized rock was found sitting in the car and is assumed to have caused the damage.

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Friday, Aug. 31 at 6:52 a.m.
Northfield officers arrested Deerfield resident Sergio A. Avila, 24, Friday morning for speeding, driving with a suspended license, missing a McHenry County court appearance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the report, police pulled Avila over in the 400 block of Central Avenue for driving 51 mph in a 35 mph zone. Police discovered he was driving with a suspended license and was already wanted in McHenry County for skipping a court date. He was arrested and brought into the station where police patted Avila down to find a marijuana pipe.

Avila is out of jail after posting bond for both Northfield and McHenry County, totaling $7,500. He needed to pay just $500 of that up front. His Northfield court date is in late September, while Avila’s McHenry court date lands on Oct. 5.

DUI

Saturday, Sept. 2 at 3:58 a.m.
Deerfield’s Taylor Ann Trompeter, 24, was arrested early Saturday morning near the corner of Waukegan and Willow roads for driving under the influence of alcohol. Trompeter was driving in Northfield when police noticed her swerving over the line between lanes.

When she was pulled over, officers discovered Trompeter was already in a traffic accident with a bush or tree, as one of her taillights was smashed out, leaving glass on the bumper and plant debris stuck to the car. She was released on a $1,500 bond and will return in court on Sept. 27.
