Northfield Police Blotter: Domestic Battery; Home Ransacked

A summary of incidents reported in Northfield from Aug. 16-19.

The Northfield Police Department provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Please e-mail the editor with any questions or to provide proof of expungement.

The Northfield Police Department fielded a total of 100 calls this week.

Home Burglary: A resident in The Landmark arrived home to find that his house had been ransacked. After he yelled "Hello?" and moments later found the sliding patio door open, he reported hearing a vehicle speeding away from the area. He told police that anything seemed to be missing.

Swiped iPad: A patron from Wilmette left her iPad at the Mita Salon, 328 W. Frontage Rd., but it was gone when she returned. The estimated value of the computer is $840.96.

Stolen Amplifier: An amplifier was stolen from a building at Clarkson Park. The missing equipment is valued at $700.

Aug. 19

Domestic battery: Police intervened when they observed a 22-year-old male driver harassing a 20-year-old woman who was outside the vehicle at Willow and Old Willow roads.

The woman told police that the man had beaten her at 400 Central Ave. and had taken her cell phone to prevent her from calling 911. She got out of the car at Willow and Old Willow roads and pleaded with a passerby to call police on her behalf while the man hurled threats.

Both the man and the woman ended up being arrested: She was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and he was charged with domestic battery, preventing a person from reporting domestic violence and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Their court dates are Sept. 2.
