Northfield Blotter: Marital Bickering Ends in Arrest, Man Watching Kids Flees

A recap of incidents reported in Northfield from Sept. 27-Oct. 4

The following items are taken from Northfield Police Department reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Oct. 2

Suspicious Person: A man was spied spying on kids playing soccer at Clarkson Park at the intersection of Willow and Bristol roads, about 11:24 a.m. A witness identified the suspect as Hispanic and his car a black "import-type vehicle," but he left before police arrived.

Oct. 1

Domestic Battery Arrest: A 69-year-old man was arrested at 7:52 p.m. after he allegedly grabbed his wife by the wrist. The couple, who live on the 1900 block of Valley View, had been having a verbal argument, which culminated in a small bruise on the wife's wrist, according to the police report. The woman refused medical attention, and her husband was taken to jail, where he remained until his bond hearing the next morning.

Disorderly Conduct: A woman on the 1800 block of Grove Drive called police at 11:48 a.m. to complain that her 14-year-old daughter was being repeatedly "harassed" on Skype by an unknown man. According to the police report, an officer came to the house and witnessed the unknown Skyper promise, via chat, he would stop contacting the teen.

Hazard: Two males juveniles were reported walking along the 300 block of South Happ Road around 4:24 p.m., one on each side of the street, pretending to hold a string across the roadway to distract drivers. According to a witness, one suspect had blondish-red hair; the other dark hair. When an officer arrived to the scene, the kids had dispersed.

Sept. 30

Suspicious Vehicle: A woman on the 200 block of Wagner Road called police when she saw "somebody in a junk truck" going through her garbage around 5:47 a.m. Police responded to the scene, determining it was a scrap metal truck collecting cans and that the complaint was unfounded.  

Sept. 28

Suspicious Vehicle: An Arlington Heights man was found sleeping in his car behind the Shell gas station at 1855 Willow Rd., about 1:39 a.m. He told police he was resting, then moved his car to a nearby parking lot and took a cab home.
