Glencoe Blotter: Two Unlocked Cars Burglarized; Mercedes Damaged by Roof Walker

A summary of crimes reported in Glencoe from June 16 to June 22.

The following items are taken from the Glencoe Public Safety Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Please email the editor with any questions or to provide proof of expungement.

 

June 21

Leaf Blower Complaint — A North Chicago landscaping company was cited for using a gas-powered leaf blower at 1:07 p.m. on the 900 block of Bluff Road.

June 20

Assault — A fight broke out in front of the Guanajuato Mexican restaurant on the 100 block of Green Bay Road at 12:15 p.m., and one of the participants, a dark-haired white man in an orange shirt, hurled anti-Semitic remarks at the others. The man was sitting at a cafe table with a dog, a woman and another man. Police said the fight started when the dog barked at two passersby, one of whom then called the dark-haired man an anti-gay slur. He reportedly made the anti-Semitic remark and then a fight broke out with slaps and punches and one guy pounding another man's head against the Guanajuato window. The restaurant owners called police, but none of the people in the brawl wished to press charges.

Leaf Blower Complaint — A Libertyville landscaping company was cited for operating a leaf blower out of season at 2:07 p.m. on the 900 block of Eastwood Road.

 

June 18

Theft — A skateboard was stolen at 11:19 a.m. on the 100 block of Harbor Street.

Driving with a Suspended License – Corey T. Sawyer, 30, of Bolingbrook was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license at 10:46 p.m. at the intersection of Scott Avenue and Sheridan Road. He drove a silver 2007 Chevy Impala and was stopped because his license plate light was burned out. His court date is set for July 11.

Fake ID — Someone tried to use a fake ID to purchase alcohol at 10:54 p.m. on June 18 on the 100 block of Green Bay Road.

 

June 17

Vandalism — A vehicle was damaged between 9 p.m. on June 16 and 9 a.m. on June 17 on the 500 block of Greenwood Avenue. Someone ran over the top of a neighbor's black 1997 Mercedes-Benz convertible, denting the hood. Two barefoot prints were left on the roof of car, causing $1,500 damage. The incident wasn't reported until 7:36 p.m.

Suspicious Person – A Waukegan man entered Glencoe from Highland Park, walking south down Green Bay Road at 6:51 a.m. He had a dirty white shroud hanging from his neck and appeared homeless. The man refused help and said he was just passing through.

Dog Complaint – A man left dog excrement on his neighbor's lawn at 11:20 a.m. on the 700 block of Vernon Avenue.

 

June 16

Burglary — A red and white 2006 Mini Cooper was broken into on the 0-100 block of Crescent Drive between 11 p.m. on June 15 and 7:45 a.m. on June 16. The car was unlocked and parked in the driveway. The thieves took iPod Nano and a classic iPod music player, a radar detector and a pair of Shure headphones, all totaling about $400.

A burglar broke into an unlocked maroon 2009 Honda SUV between 8 p.m. on June 14 and 6:15 a.m. on June 16 on 200 block of Dennis Lane. The items removed from the center console include $5 of coins and a bottle of medication that was recovered in the grass near the vehicle.

Fake ID — A 17-year-old Glencoe boy was cited for using a fake I.D. to buy tobacco at 11:56 p.m. at the 7-Eleven on the 100 block of Green Bay Road. He tried to use a fake California driver's license, which he left on the counter. He took off in a black SUV, but police tracked him down and issued the citation.
