Glencoe Blotter: Burglars Hit Vacationers' House; Graffiti Expresses Political Opinions

The following items are taken from the Glencoe Public Safety Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

April 4

Found Item — A Glencoe man's driver's license was found on the sidewalk of the 1100 block of Skokie Ridge Drive and turned into the Glencoe Public Safety Department at 8:23 a.m.

Found Item — A woman found a silver cross pendant with encrusted diamonds on the Green Bay Trail at 12:44 p.m. between Mary Street and Wentworth Avenue.

April 3

Burglary — Someone broke into a home on the 600 block of Orchard Lane between noon on March 31 and 11:38 a.m. on April 3. The home belongs to the caller's parents, who were out of town. The place was ransacked. The burglars hard entered by prying open a window and breaking the glass. It is unknown what was taken, but a pillowcase was missing, and it was possibly taken to use as a bag for small items, like jewelry.

April 2

Graffiti — A political graffiti artist wrote derogatory comments about several Illinois politicians at various places around the Hubbard Woods Plaza. The graffiti was found at 9:20 p.m. A speed limit sign out front on Green Bay Road was also changed from 25 miles per hour to 85 miles per hour.

April 1

Suspicious Incident — A woman reported that an unknown female may have broken into her house between 11:15 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on the 600 block of Vernon Avenue. The victim heard the front door open, and the dog ran upstairs barking. She then heard a woman's voice, say “Oh.” When the homeowner came to the front door, she found it locked, with no one in sight. Nothing was missing.

March 31

Disorderly Conduct — Someone wrote a phallic symbol, a swastika and the several words in a sand trap of Skokie Country Club on the 500 block of Washington Avenue. The writings were found at 12:21 p.m.

Criminal Damage to Property — A man reported that someone cut his Christmas lights down at 12:05 p.m. on the 400 block of Greenleaf Avenue. The lights were cut sometime between January and the end of March. The homeowner reported five of his six strands of lights have been cut. Police said this may have been done by squirrels.

Suspicious Person — A man in his 30's was walking along the railroad tracks in blue jeans and a blue jacket at 11:01 a.m. near the corner of Green Bay Road and South Avenue.
