Off Campus Writers' Workshop Presents: Menachem Wecker - “The Art and Craft of Arts Reporting”

Menachem Wecker is a freelance reporter, covering
religious, art, and higher education topics based in Chicago. He was previously
the education reporter at U.S. News & World Report and holds a
master's in art history from George Washington University. He is the coauthor
of the forthcoming book, Consider No Evil: Two Faith Traditions and the
Problem of Academic Freedom in Religious Higher Education
(Cascade Books).

From
the charge "A two-year-old could make that!" to the view that all art
is in the eye of the beholder, many people have trouble approaching art as
anything but an esoteric curiosity. It is difficult enough to study art to
begin with. Trying to weigh and dissect that art from a critical perspective
and to discuss it in accessible terms without diluting the art is even tougher.
This workshop won't be able to settle that problem, but it will reflect on one
art critic's experiences on the beat.

OCWW meets Thursdays, 9:30 - Noon, at the Winnetka
Community House, 620 Lincoln Ave., Winnetka, from September to May each year.
You don't have to be a member to attend, but members receive great session
discounts and may participate in manuscript critiques by presenters, and in
dynamic critique groups during the year. Session fee is $15 per week. Website -
