OCWW Writers' Workshop Presents: Bill St. John - "Eat Those Words - How I Write on Food and Wine"

Bill St. John - "Eat Those Words - How I Write on Food and Wine"
When people find out what Bill St. John's studies in college and graduate school were, they almost always ask, "What do philosophy and religion have to do with wine and food?"  Well, Bill thinks everything is of one weave. On one hand, like philosophy, he considers writing about food and wine to be thinking about what these sensual experiences mean; on the other hand, like religion, how those experiences can transcend the everyday.
So, Bill writes stories about how, where and by whom wine or food is made or consumed and what those stories mean; He describes the sensual nature of those experiences; and, in general and for lack of clearer words, takes the reader from one place that's 'here and now', to another place that's 'there and beyond'. Bill will talk about how he has done that over 40 years' time; what seems to work and what doesn't, and for whom (readers and publishers both), in storytelling about wine and food, in restaurant reviews and in recipes.
OCWW meets Thursdays, 9:30 - Noon, at the Winnetka Community House, 620 Lincoln Ave., Winnetka, from September to May each year. You don't have to be a member to attend, but members receive great session discounts and may participate in manuscript critiques by presenters, and in dynamic critique groups during the year. Session fee is $15 per week. Website - ocww.bizland.com - for further information, or 847-951-0429.
