Explosions Reported Near Boston Marathon Finish Line

Two deaths, 22 injuries have been reported.

The Boston Globe is reporting that there were two explosions near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

According to the New York Times, two are dead and 22 are injured. The explosions occurred a few seconds apart at about 2:45 p.m., according to CNN.

The Boston Marathon headquarters is on lockdown, according to Reuters.

Boston Marathon officials shared this message on Facebook: "There were two bombs that exploded near the finish line in today's Boston Marathon. We are working with law enforcement to understand what exactly has happened."

The Boston Marathon website shows that 974 people from Illinois are participating in this year's event, including 11 from Libertyville and nine from Grayslake.

Several people have commented on the Grayslake Patch Facebook page about the explosions. One reader said he knows someone running the marathon and is "trying to get ahold of him now." Another reader said, "so far two people I know there have checked in and are fine," while another said, "Yes, my friend's hubby ran, and his is fine, thank heavens!"

There are five Winnetka residents — and three Glencoe residents were participating in the marathon this year.
