Glencoe's Castle: An Architectural History by Scott Javore
Across from the train station on Glencoe Drive, the still-fine old mansion known as “The Castle” is one of Glencoe’s stateliest homes. Built in 1876, it is closely tied to some of the village’s founding residents. It also is a leading example of sensitive historic preservation.
Glencoe architect Scott Javore will speak on Monday, November 7, at 7:30 p.m. on early Glencoe history, how the lives of the three initial owners of the Castle are woven into that history, and the rise and fall—and rise again! —of this remarkable structure over the years. Titled “Glencoe’s Castle: The History and Renovation of Glencoe’s Most Significant Residence,” his program also will describe the extensive renovation that ultimately restored the home’s detailing and character.
A fifth-generation Glencoe resident, Javore is an architect specializing in historic preservation as well as renovations, additions, and new construction.
