Two Winnetka Beaches Hit Bottom in Water Quality

Two beaches, Elder Park Beach and Centennial Dog Beach, have poor water quality according to a recent report.

Two Winnetka beaches rank low for water quality, according to a recent report by the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC).

Elder Park Beach and Centennial Dog Beach racked up numbers as high as 61 percent and 49 percent respectively for percentages of samples exceeding state standards.

An ABC 7 video, "Bad beaches: Low water quality in Winnetka, Lake County," highlighted water contamination due to storm damage as a main culprit for Winnetka beaches, and interviewed Winnetka's own Lee Volpe of the Park District about a temporary closing of a Winnetka beach.
