This week's Patch Portraits also feature an Evanston volunteer who throws one of the city's biggest parties.

Highland Park Mayor will step down at Monday night's City Council meeting after serving eight years as mayor and eight before that as a council member.

In an interview with Patch, Belsky reflected fondly on the coalitions he assembled to bring things such as the Community Health Center and The Art Center to Highland Park. He has helped Highland Park become a model for other communities with its affordable-housing and environmental initiatives.

“They city is very well-run in terms of the basics,” Belsky said. “Because that’s well-done, I’ve been able to be very progressive."
