Community Corner

All Jammed Up

See how Winnetka's traffic stacks up to other small American communities.

From the "self-evident" file: The Business Journals' G. Scott Thomas reports that smaller cities have smoother traffic.

The holy grail of all American cities? Altus, Okla., where a cool 80.5 percent of the town's 19,345 residents can get to work in less than 15 minutes. If the grass is looking a little greener, here's another stat: only a scant 1.5 percent of Altusians have a commute longer than 45 minutes. That's compared to 15.5 percent of drivers in the rest of the U.S.

Winnetka made Thomas's list, qualifying because of its estimated 12,344 citizens (as of 2009). But it was hardly near the top. So we don't spoil the ending: See how Winnetka (and nearby Wilmette) stacked up in the box at the bottom of the page.
