Northfield Police Blotter: Battery, Theft and Criminal Damage

The following arrest information was supplied by the Northfield Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

May 29

Criminal damage: Around 7:25 a.m., Park District staff found that someone had smashed the passenger window of a vehicle that had been parked in the 400 block of Wagner Road over the weekend. There were dents on along the side of the truck, and a stone was on the ground nearby. Nothing was taken from the truck, and the doors were still locked. The damages were estimated to be $200.

Criminal damage: Around 7:45 a.m., staff at Sunset Ridge School (525 Sunset Ridge Rd.) found a damaged window on the east side of the building. The glass had been shattered by a rock. Damages were estimated at $400.

May 31

Animal: A student was walking home from school on a bike path in the Cook County Forest Preserve when he was charged by a coyote. The boy's mother called the police, who then reported it to Cook County.

Theft: Residents in the 2100 block of Middlefork Road discovered that someone had stolen just under $3,000 of jewelry from them. There were no signs of forced entry, and the case is under investigation.

Earlier: 

June 3

Theft: A resident in the 200 block of South Happ Road found that someone had stolen the red-white-and-blue caps off her solar landscaping lights. At $5 per cap, the damages came to $30.

DUI: Police received several reports of a reckless driver speeding on Skokie Road headed toward Northield from Wilmette. They looked up the license plats of the car and were waiting for the offender at his home in the 1900 block of Abbot Court. Officers approached the 21-year-old Northfield man when he got out of his car and administered a field sobriety test, which he failed. He was arrested for driving under the influence and subsequently released on a $1,500 i-bond. His court date is June 18.

June 4

Battery: A disorderly 45-year-old man from Kenilworth approached a Northfield couple around midnight at Stormy's Tavern (1735 Orchard Ln.) and challenged the male, 30, to a fight. The victim refused, at which point the offender slapped him in the face and left the scene. The man declined to prosecute.

Battery: A 15-year-old Glenview boy called the police when he was beaten by three offenders with whom he had been riding in a car. They had all been at a party in Northbrook, and they offered him a ride home. When he got in the car, they began hitting him. He was able to get out in the 300 block of Jeffrey Lane. When police arrived, they found him intoxicated, with injuries to his face. An ambulance transported him to Evanston Hospital. The case is under investigation.

Criminal damage: A resident of the 1700 block of Colonial Lane found his windshield cracked. Lying on the ground next to the vehicle was a baseball. It's unknown if the damage was deliberate or accidental.
