Proposed Stormwater Fee in Winnetka, Would Be Among Highest in U.S.

Winnetka residents could see an average stormwater utility fee of about $360, Chicago Tribune reports.

Winnetka residents could have an average annual stormwater utility fee of about $360—among the highest of such fees in the country—if Winnetka council members approve a $41 million stormwater management plan at its meeting next week, Chicago Tribune reported.

The village plans to hold community meetings to pitch the project and gather inputs from residents this summer. Winnetka resident Jim Wyant is thrilled the village is undertaking the project, he recently told council members that homeowners have spent more money fixing their homes in the past five years than what the village is considering to spend on stormwater management, Chicago Tribune reported.

Winnetka is also considering a $34.6 million stormwater tunnel beneath Willow Road to ease the village’s flooding issues.
