Chipmunks in Convertibles, Birds at Domino's

Check out some of the strangest animal stories to pass our Patch newsdesk, courtesy of the Glencoe Public Safety Department.

While Glencoe isn't exactly known for its high crime rate, Public Safety sure does stay busy...with the amount of animal calls it receives. Check out a few of our favorites below.

Squirrel Gets Head Stuck in Recycling Bin
Sometimes the headline writes itself — this is one of those cases. A squirrel on the 700 block of Apple Tree Ln. somehow managed to get its head stuck in a hole in the resident's recycling bin. The resident told police that she believed the squirrel could be freed if someone applied pressure at the top of the squirrels head. The issue was resolved by an officer wearing a pair of heavy gloves.

Turtle Brought to Wrong Station
A woman reportedly found a turtle in front of the Winnetka Community House. The woman wrapped a turtle in a blanket, put it in her car and drove it to the Glencoe Public Safety building. The police told her to take it to the Winnetka Police station.

Chipmunks Like Convertibles Too
A resident on the 300 block of Dundee Rd. reported to police that a chipmunk was stuck in the top compartment of her red 1966 Mustang convertible. The vehicle was parked in the garage. The resident found the chipmunk on the trunk of the car. When she attempted to get it off, the chipmunk jumped into the convertible top compartment. It was later rescued.

Turtle Crossing
A turtle was reported to be crossing the road at the east end of Park Ave. on July 4. The turtle was moved out of the roadway and into the park.

The next day, a turtle was reported to be crossing the road at the intersection of Green Bay Rd. and Lake Cook Rd. The turtle was gone on arrival.

Bird Tries to Get Pizza To Go
An employee at Domino's Pizza reported that a bird flew into the store at 67 Green Bay Rd. By the time the police got there, the bird was gone.
