ReplyHold on - what? I'm smearing Gene Greable?! AII I said was he did a disservice to voters by not agreeing to have a public debate. I certainly didn't intend that as a smear. I have a lot of respect for Mr Greable. He's served many years selflessly for the Village. I think both he and Mr Rintz seem to be well-qualified candidates. I'd like to hear what they each have to say about the huge issues currently facing Winnetka, and I think others would too - what is wrong with that?

ReplyI wouldn't be surprised if it was Carry who counseled him not to attend the LWV forum - her dislike for the League is well-documented (though the reasons are mysterious). I agree that Gene has done a disservice to voters by declining to participate in the forum - why wouldn't he want residents to know more about where he stands on the issues? This is such a critical time for Winnetka.

On the Blog Post Winnetka Residents - "WHOA" speaks for you????

ReplyHow strange that all the comments disappeared as well. Here's what I said previously: "No kidding. FINALLY someone is willing to stand up and say what we've all been thinking for years. Who are these bullies and why do they think they can say whatever they want about anyone, with impugnity? Fear-mongerers who launch anonymous personal attacks on anyone who dares to disagree - I've been a victim, as has Jennifer, and now Chris Rintz (who's done nothing other than decide to run an independent campaign for Village President). Enough is enough!"

ReplyAs Betsy Brint said in her original posting, every time you replace your sign, it's more money to Obama... I wonder if the sign stealers realize that?!

ReplyEven if this issue is one that could be consolidated into a "yes" or "no" question, the only people with a reason to vote in this election are Republicans, so the results of this referendum will not represent the opinion of the entire Winnetka community. Nevertheless, nsmom is right - they will almost certainly be held up by "WHOA" as if they did.

To John, regarding your comment about "sentiment in the room" affecting Trustees' thinking: I think you raise an interesting point. My understanding of the Village Council meetings is that the Trustees are not to come into the meeting with minds made up, but to listen to public commentary and the opinions of other Trustees and Village Staff, and make decisions based on that information.
That said, they should also have the courage of their convictions and be willing to make what appear to be unpopular choices if they believe it is for the good of the town. That is the sign of a strong leader.

Okay Adrienne Sassaman I am now calling you out by name. That was an incredibly snobbish comment and way below even you. Seriously?! "That dump on south Locust"? Are we not above this type of behavior?
