A developer says more parking is needed to attract an anchor tenant to the former Gap location in Winnetka.
Wondering what’s happening around the former Gap location at 925 Green Bay Rd. in Winnetka? A Highland Park developer is proposing to bring in an upscale anchor tenant to the Hubbard Woods business district and put up a parking lot at 929 and 931 Green Bay Road, Chicago Tribune reported. So what’s the reaction to the plan? Terry Dason, executive director of the Winnetka-Northfield Chamber of Commerce, says she likes the plan because it could bring in more business for the district—but Marla Reisman, one of the two retailers that would have to relocate, is not happy with the plan, she has a sign with a Joni Mitchell quote up in the window of her store, which reads, “Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you’ve got till it’…

From a new taco restaurant to a new animal hospital, the village says it’s excited about the variety of businesses that’s coming to the village.
An online retailer and a dialysis center are among the four new businesses expected to open in Northfield in the near future. PC Nation is planning to move its online sales operations and a showroom into the building at 500 Central Ave. by end of October, according to Steven Gutierrez, community development director for the Village of Northfield. “They have a show room and retail area that they are hoping to open before the holidays,” Gutierrez said. “It’ll be in a separate space but at the same address.” Taco Nano is expected to take over the former Hunan Chef’s space at 1743 Orchard Ln. The store is expected to be a quick-serve spot with 16 chairs and an emphasis on carryout. “They are in the midst of renovating the space and are …

Lake Shore Acupuncture will have its grand opening Sept. 5., and the owner says residents in Winnetka seem to be healthier than Chicagoans.
After five years practicing acupuncture, Highland Park native Dana Hoffman expanded her practice in July by setting up an office in Winnetka. Hoffman, who also works in Chicago, decided to set up shop in Winnetka so that she could partner with Samuel Moltz, a doctor of comprehensive internal medicine. Moltz works with patients to try to deal with their chronic health issues and reduce their dependence on medication, goals that are also very important to Hoffman. “The body is self-healing,” she said. “When you fall and scrape your knee it mends itself. All of these things that people come to see me for are symptoms that something is wrong, and its my job to promote more blood flow and kick up the release of endorphins and neurotransmitters…

Winnetka will renew its membership with Chicago’s North Shore Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Despite some objections, the Winnetka Village Council voted Tuesday night to spend $6,500 to renew its Chicago’s North Shore Convention and Visitors Bureau membership for another year. Winnetka joined the organization in February 2010 at the request of the Winnetka Community House, the Winnetka-Northfield Chamber of Commerce and several village businesses. A community must be a member of the bureau before its businesses and organizations can join, and Winnetka now has 14 individual memberships, including the Winnetka Community House, The Hadley School for the Blind and Avli Estiatorio. Other member communities include Evanston, Glenview, Skokie and Northbrook. The organization promotes its members via its website, Facebook page, Twitter …

If the Gap closed it's doors on this street, what makes other retailers think it is such a great idea to open. My question would be if the parking is for these new proposed businesses or open to all customers of other businesses? The Hubbard Woods district has a serious lack of parking issue, its is beyond congested with the businesses that are already there and the elementary school traffic. Do …   more ›
