Police: Children's Bike Stolen from Skokie School

Cannabis Activity John A. Wirt, 20, of Winnetka and Ryan Elias, 19, of Northbrook were cited for possession of cannabis on May 13 on the 700 block of Lincoln Ave., Winnetka Police reports state. Their court date is set for June 13. Identity Theft A victim on the 1000 block of Cherry St. reported that on May 13, an unknown offender(s) accessed her bank account and attempted to withdraw funds for a wire transfer, police reports state. There's no reported loss at this time. Criminal Damage An officer discovered that between April 13 and May 16, an unknown offender used white spray paint to deface the entrance of the Willow Rd. underpass at 299 Green Bay Rd. with graffiti, police reports state. Teen Caught With Cannabis at New Trier High School, Police Say

Outstanding Warrant Marc A. Moffett, 48, of Chicago was arrested for an in-state warrant out of Chicago Heights on May 1, Winnetka Police reports state. The arrest was made subsequent to an investigation of a suspicous person. Moffett was taken into custody and was transported to the police department. Custody was transferred to Chicago Heights Police. Disorderly Conduct Denise Torres, 27, of Winnetka was cited for disorderly conduct on the 500 block of Chestnut St. on May 1. Her court date is set for May 20. Cannabis Activity A male juvenile, 16, from the New Trier Township area was cited for possession of cannabis, Winnetka Police reports state. Dog Struck by Man Driving with Suspended License

Theft A victim on the 200 block of Fairview Rd. reported that on April 2, an unkown offender(s) removed an unsecured blue and silver child's Razor scooter from the bike rack, police reports state. The amount of loss has been reported at $80.  Theft A victim on the 1000 block of Spruce St. reported that between April 19 and April 20, an unknown offender(s) removed a vehicle hood ornament from a vehicle parked on the driveway, Winnetka Police reports state. Five Incidents of Criminal Trespass on Forest Glen Drive

Theft A victim on the 700 block of Elm St. reported to Winnetka Police that on April 5, an unknown offender(s) had entered his unsecured vehicle and removed items from the passenger seat, police reports state. The items removed included a Timbuktu black canvas bag that contained a Blackberry Bold 9780 cell phone. The amount of loss is reported at $625. Traffic Arrest Keiara A. Piper, 22, of Oak Grove, Kentucky was arrested for driving with a suspended driver's license, according to Winnetka Police reports. She was also cited for improper lane usage and improper display of registration. Theft A victim on the 500 block of Ash St. discovered between April 1 and April 2 that unknown offender(s) removed three bags of lawn care products from the front lawn, police reports state. The amount of loss is reported at $37.  Traffic Arrest Justino Guzman Fernandez, 26, of Prospect Heights is being charged with driving without a valid driver's license, according to police reports. Fernandez was also cited for having no proof of insurance and use of a hand held cell phone while driving. The incident occurred at the intersection of Willow Rd. and Locust Rd. on April 3. Glenview Stabbing Suspect Could Receive Electronic Monitoring

Silverstein was still in custody at the time of his Tuesday morning court appearance.

Mitchell S. Silverstein, the Glenview teenager recently charged with attempted first degree murder after stabbing another teen in the chest appeared in Cook County court on Tuesday where the conditions of his $300,000 bond were reviewed by Judge Marcia Orr. Silverstein had not posted bail and was still in custody at the time of his court appearance. Previous bond conditions kept him from owning a dangerous weapon, but Orr added electronic monitoring in the event Silverstein posts bail.  Silverstein, 17, was arrested in Winnetka last week when he stabbed another teenager in a dispute over an iPhone.

Oh, no- I don't believe everyone is Winnetka is like that by any means. I'm very aware of the privileged mentality by a good many North Shorers. I do think though, that even the more open bigots would not post on Patch. I had a similar experience regarding someone asking a black man to mow their lawn. Baby Gift Stolen on Sheridan Rd.

Theft An officer discovered that sometime between March 22 and March 25, an unknown offender(s) removed the white village street sign from the intersection of Locust St. and Ash St., police reports state. The amount of loss is reported at $58. Traffic Arrest A male juvenile, 17, from the New Trier Township area was arresetd for failing to give information after striking two parked unattended vehicles at the intersection of Lincoln Ave. and Oak St., Winnetka Police reports state. Suspect in Winnetka Stabbing Gets $300K Bail

The stabbing victim's father told reporters his son would be okay after suffering a collapsed lung from the altercation.

Mitchell Silverstein, the 17-year-old Glenview resident charged with felony attempted murder for a Winnetka stabbing over an iPhone theft last week, had bond set at $300,000 during a court appearance Saturday, NBC Chicago reports. One of the victims in the stabbing is a 17-year-old male who received a "serious puncture wound [to the chest] that required immediate response," Winnetka Chief of Police, Patrick Kreis said. Glenview Teen Charged In Winnetka Stabbing

A Glenview teen faces felony attempted murder charges after a double stabbing in Winnetka Thursday night. One teen is hospitalized with a serious puncture wound to the chest, while another was treated for minor injuries and released.

There were no fatalities in a Thursday night stabbing on the 1400 block of Scott Avenue in Winnetka, according to Winnetka Chief of Police Patrick Kreis. Mitchell S. Silverstein, 17, of Glenview, was charged with felony attempted first degree murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, police say.  An unnamed 17-year-old male was transported to Evanston Hospital with a "serious puncture wound [to the chest] that required immediate response," Kreis said at a Friday press conference. He is expected to recover from the injuries.  A 16-year-old male was treated and released from the hospital with a knife wound on his hand, which he incurred while trying to stop Silverstein, police say.  At about 7:15 p.m. on March 28, the Winnetka …

North Shore Police to Crack Down on Hand-Held Cell Phone Use While Driving

The National Safety Council estimates that 1.3 million traffic crashes annually involves the use of a cell phone.

  Do you drive with one hand and hold your cell phone with the other? You might want to switch to hands-free cell phone use while driving.  Starting April 1, Winnetka Police Department will join forces with other North Shore police departments to step up enforcement of the local ordinance that prohibits hand-held cell phone use while driving, exemptions are made for reporting police, fire or medical emergencies, according to a press release.  Police will also be conducting education activities and urging residents to contact their State Representative or Legislator to implement a statewide ban of hand-held cell phone use while driving.  The National Safety Council estimates that 1.3 million traffic crashes each year involve the use of a …
