Northfield Police Investigating 11 Burglaries From Unlocked Vehicles Over 3 Days

The incidents took place between Oct. 21 and 23 around the village.

Northfield police are investigating 11 burglaries from motor vehicles throughout the village, according to a press release.  The incidents took place during the overnight hours between Oct. 21 and 23 in the areas of the 1700 block of Harding Road and the 100 to 200 blocks of Riverside Drive.  Police say all the vehicles were unlocked at the times of the burglaries. Stolen items include GPS devices, prescription drugs, cell phones, manuals and documents, cash, tools, electronics and other items of value.  “Most vehicles burglaries have one thing in common: something valuable left in the car. Burglary of Motor Vehicle A Glencoe victim reported her car window smashed in and her Prada purse stolen from her vehicle in the parking lot at 7 S. Happ Rd. on Sept. 27 between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. The purse was in plain view at the time of the incident, and Northfield police continue to investigate. The loss is valued at more than $500.  Distrurbance and Consumption of Alcohol by Minors Northfield police responded to reports of a disturbance and possible underage drinking on Clover Lane Sept. 22 at 8:47 p.m. All of those cited are 16-years of age. They include: a female from Kenilworth, male from Glencoe and a male from Northfield, all who were cited for consumption of alcohol by a minor. Northfield Police Blotter: Four Times the Legal Limit and a Wanted Man

From a very drunk man behind the wheel to a wanted man caught in Northfield, these are the most interesting police reports from last week.

Wednesday, Aug. 29 at 8:29 a.m. Employees at Teddie Kossof Salon and Spa on Waukegan Road called police Wednesday morning after an odd customer continued to call the business. The police report indicates that the client was harassing the salon workers repeatedly on the phone, so police intervened and solved the issue. Wednesday, Aug. 29 at 8:21 p.m. Northfield police pulled over 49-year-old Mario Ruiz-Serna Wednesday night for a traffic error, but said they soon found out he was heavily under the influence of alcohol. According to the report, the Beach Park resident made an illegal turn into a one-way alley near Central Avenue and Ash Street prompting police to move in. Northfield Police Blotter: Wallet Thievery, No DL

The following arrest information was supplied by the Northfield Police Department. In the case of an arrest, individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Negligent Driver A police officer stopped a 16-year-old Wilmette boy for doing donuts and squealing his tires in the New Trier parking lot around 9:30 p.m. June 29. The driver was given a local ordinance violation and has a court date July 23. No driver's License  Police stopped a 42-year-old Chicago man for driving 41 mph in a 20-mph zone in the 2200 block of Old Willow Road June 25. They discovered that he had no valid driver's license and released him on a $1,500 i-bond. His court date is July 10.  Police stopped a 22-year-old Chicago man in the 2100 block of Willow Road for driving 64 mph in a  35-mph zone June 28. They also found he had no proof of insurance or a valid driver's license. He was released on a $2,000 10-percent-applied …

May 9 Burglary from a motor vehicle: Over the May 4th weekend, someone forced entry into a construction company's van, which was parked in the 2200 block of Winnetka Road. They broke a window and pried open a door to steel about $4,485 worth of tools. No driver's license: Police stopped a 49-year-old man from Skokie when he disobeyed a no-left-turn sign. They also discovered that he had no valid license. He was released on a $1,500 i-bond and given a court date on June 18. May 2 Theft: A Walgreen's employee reported that someone stole her wallet, which contained a large sum of cash. She left her purse in the car but brought the wallet in a plastic bag to work with her so she could have it nearby. Her lunch that day was in an identical plastic bag, and after she went on break she brought the bag of food back to the register instead of the bag with the wallet. By the time she realized the mistake, the wallet was gone. April 24 Forgery: Between April 9 and April 20, someone in Pittsburgh, Pa. electronically created a check that used the bank account of a Northfield resident. The resident alerted his bank about the $1,880.10 fraud, and the case was turned over to the Pittsburgh jurisdiction. -- Theft: A 47-year-old man dropped off his vehicle at Fields BMW (700 W. Frontage Rd.) to have a lightbulb changed. When he returned, his silver iPod was missing. The device was valued under $300. Suburban Cops Prepping For NATO Summit

Police don't expect terrorism here, but cops in Winnetka and Northfield are training for reaction to NATO summit in three weeks.

North suburban police departments are training to back up Chicago police for the NATO summit May 20-21 – and to handle any incidents that spill out beyond the city limits. Regarding the NATO summit, Northfield Police Chief William Lustig said, "The Northfield Police Department has been working in conjunction with surrounding suburban agencies in an effort to be prepared for the upcoming NATO Conference. We continue  to monitor and prepare for this event, with our immediate partners." Winnetka Deputy Chief Joseph Pellus agreed. "Without discussing specifics of our training or preparation, we benefit from strong partnerships with our neighboring law enforcement agencies and robust mutual aid agreements," said Pellus. Northfield Police Blotter: Theft, Invalid License, Graffiti and Harrassment

April 17 Harrassment by electronic means: A 72-year-old resident in the 100 block of Wagner Road reported receiving a text message about 11:30 p.m. that simply said, "u r dead." Police called the phone number with no answer, and the voicemail box had not been set up. It's unknown if the victim was actually the intended recipient of the message. Last week: Northfield Police Blotter: Theft, Fire, Vandalism and In-State Warrant April 18 Hit and run: A man turned left in front of an oncoming car on Willow Road during a yellow light and was unable to avoid a collision, police said.
