North Shore Reps. Discuss Their Plans to Mend Illinois' Fiscal Crisis
At Sunday’s League of Women Voters-sponsored forum, state Reps. Daniel Biss, Robyn Gabel and Karen May instilled hope in some residents and infuriated others.
The three state representatives of Glencoe, Kenilworth, Northfield, Wilmette and Winnetka came before disgruntled residents Sunday to address growing concerns of Illinois’ gaping budget hole. Three local branches of the League of Women Voters – Glencoe, Wilmette, and Winnetka-Northfield-Kenilworth – hosted the forum, inviting Reps. This state is in such a hole, and these people, Biss excluded, got us there. Biss is right: start with zero based budgets EVERY year. Gov't entities spend so they don't get cut, which is totally wrong. The hope in this crisis is that it can change the patronage model, the waste and the lethargy without sense of outcome and deliverable that has defined state and federal gov'ts for decades now. …   more ›
