Rebuilding Glencoe’s Friends Park Could Cost $440K to $460K

What type of playground equipment would you like to see at the park? Tell us in the comment section below.

Plans to rebuild Glencoe’s Friends Park could cost between $440,000 to $460,000, while there’s no indication of a fund-raising campaign to cover the expenses, the funds could come from available district capital and some overstocked district accounts, Glencoe News reported.  Glencoe Park District is expected to vote on a final plan at the March 19 meeting; among the proposed playground equipments for the park could include a kid-powered merry-go-around, swings, train- and boat-like fixtures, a net climber – all with a handicap-accessible component that could make Friends Park the most handicapped-accessible park in Glencoe, Glencoe News reported.  The whole set of playground equipment at the park at Vernon Avenue and Tudor Court was …

Mishap Leads Park District to Clear Playground Equipment at Glencoe's Friends Park

A boy fell through a step at the park’s biggest piece of playground equipment on Oct. 15.

After a boy fell through a playground equipment at Glencoe’s Friends Park, the park district is seeking to replace the 15-foot tall apparatus in March 2013, according to Glencoe News.  The whole set of playground equipment at the park at Vernon Avenue and Tudor Court was originally slated to be replaced in mid 2013. Glencoe Park District moved up the replacement date after a 13-year-old fell five feet through a step on the playground equipment on Oct. 15.  Park district employees told Glencoe News that they noticed serious rot on two smaller pieces of the playground equipment in September but not the larger equipment. Heavy rain over the weekend of Oct. 13 could have accelerated deterioration on the larger playground equipment, park staff …

Sand creatures, castles, other creations compete for prizes Sunday at Glencoe Beach.

The Glencoe Park District hosted its annual Family Sand Sculpting Contest Sunday afternoon at Glencoe Beach. Participants competed for a win in four catergories: best animal, best castle, best sculpture, and most creative sculpture. Participation in the competition was free with admission to the beach. About 100 beachgoers gathered to watch or take part in the contest, which resulted in just under a dozen sculptures. Creations this year included a turtle, two sea monsters, a tribute to the Olympics, an alien, a couple of castles, and even a mermaid. Winners received a Glencoe Park District beach towel and a ticket for free admission to the beach.
