Canceled Forum Angers Patch Readers

Patch readers share their thoughts on the cancelled League of Women Voters debate between Chris Rintz and Gene Greable, after Greable declined to participate.

Last week, the League of Women Voters announced that their candidate forum between Winnetka Village President candidates Chris Rintz and the cacus-backed Gene Greable was cancelled, because Greable declined to participate. "My qualifications to serve as President and my long and active record of leadership are very well known," Greable told Patch. "My resume speaks for itself. The Winnetka Caucus Council interviewed us both at length and then selected me." Patch readers weighed in on the cancelled debate in Patch's earlier coverage. While most were upset that both candidates weren't williing to participate, some understood while Greable declined.  "Gene Greable has always conducted himself as an honest fair representative of his fellow …

Why should a vetted candidate give credibility to an independent? Is there any history of candidate debates in WInnetka? Again, how can a debate be "cancelled" if a candidate never agreed to participate? Gene already went through the vetting process. I am 1000% in favor of independent candidates. It keeps the caucus on its toes and it is what democracy is all about. If Gene wins, the AH fangirls …   more ›

Livney Won’t Run for Winnetka Council Seat in April

Patrick Livney, who failed to replace Joe Adams on Winnetka Caucus Council’s slate of trustee candidates, has bowed out of the race.

Winnetka resident Patrick Livney has confirmed he won’t run as an independent trustee candidate in the April election, Chicago Tribune reported.  During a raucous Nov. 12 meeting, Livney failed to gain enough votes to replace Joe Adams on Winnetka Caucus Council’s slate of candidates for Village Trustee. Adams, chair of Winnetka’s Zoning Board of Appeals received 310 votes, Livney received 216 votes. Incumbents Arthur Braun and Richard Kates led the pack with 436 and 429 votes respectively.  At that meeting Livney left open the possibility of running as an independent, a path that current trustee Jennifer Spinney used two years ago to win another term on the board.  But on Friday, Livney bowed out of the race.   "As my voice has been heard…

Rintz to Mount Independent Bid Against Greable

Former Trustee Chris Rintz to challenge Caucus' village president candidate; challenger Patrick Livney fails to replace Joe Adams on the Caucus' slate of trustee candidates.

Next April’s Winnetka elections promise to be interesting as former trustee Chris Rintz said he will mount an independent campaign for Village President following Winnetka Caucus Council’s selection of Gene Greable for that post.    More political intrigue could also be forming in terms of the village board elections, where challenger Patrick Livney did not win enough votes to replace Joe Adams on the Caucus’ slate of candidates for Village Trustee.  Incumbents Arthur Braun and Richard Kates led the pack with 436 and 429 votes respectively. Adams, Winnetka’s Zoning Board of Appeals Chair, received 310 votes and Livney came in fourth with 216. In what was at times a raucous atmosphere Monday night at the Skokie School, Winnetka residents …

Saw Livney at multiple school board meetings as he attacked those with whom he disagreed and also attacked the superintendent. I hope we chose trustees with more adult temperament than he has displayed, along with more relevant experience and some demonstrated history of community service. The videos of the school board meetings actually reveal his embarrassing behavior pretty clearly.   more ›
