Mary Willian McKey will be selling her jewelry at Winnetka Artisan's Fair from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Dec. 12.
One person’s trash could be another person’s treasure and for Mary Willian McKey, who designs jewelry with beach glass, this is certainly true. “For me, every walk on the beach is a treasure hunt,” McKey said. The Winnetka resident lives a few blocks away from Lake Michigan and loved collecting beach glass on her walks. Beach glass or sea glass begins as a bottle or other glass object but becomes smooth and glossy over time, McKey said. Five years ago, she decided to take up metalsmithing so she could turn some of the beach glass into jewelry. “Each piece tells a story,” she said. “Thicker pieces or ones with irregularities are usually the oldest. The colors indicate the origin of the bottle: a light blue or green piece may have been a…

Ingrid Anderson-Grace will be selling her works at Winnetka Artisan's Fair from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Dec. 12.
Seeing the works of architect Antoni Gaudi in Barcelona inspired Ingrid Anderson-Grace to join a friend’s mosaic art group in Wilmette five years ago. Anderson-Grace will be selling mosaic tiles and magnetic pins she made with her friend Susan Segal at Winnetka Artisan’s Fair. The full-time occupational therapist is shy to call herself an artist but says, “I’ve always liked to do artsy, crafty things.” Apart from mosaic works, the Winnetka resident will also be selling knitted items. “In recent years many new novelty yarns have appeared – this makes it fun to combine different textures, colors,” Anderson-Grace said. “Some of my items this year are not even knitted with yarn.” More than 70 artisans, crafters and fair-trade vendors will …

In high school, Susan Segal enjoyed making jewelry and working for a local silversmith. Segal picked up jewelry making again about eight years ago and will be selling her handmade jewelry at Winnetka Artisan’s Fair. The Winnetka realtor says she uses only semi-precious stones, sterling silver and gold filled products for her jewelry. “Natural materials inspire me in the sense that they are from all over the world,” Segal said. “Rotary and my jewelry have a global, earthy feeling.” For more about Segal’s work, visit: www.siouxshi.com More than 70 artisans, crafters and fair-trade vendors will be offering a variety of unique items such as jewelry, dolls, photos, knit wear, tasty preserves and more from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday at …

K&K Deigns in Glass will be selling glass artworks at Winnetka Artisan's Fair from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Dec. 12.
K&K Deigns in Glass is a side business for the Bertram family. As a young boy Bob learned how to create stained glass windows and made pieces for family and friends. While on vacation several years ago, Bob, his wife Susan and two daughters, caught the artistic bug and learned the art of fusing glass in a kiln. “Our girls, Kyle, 15, and Kelly, 11, had fun creating beautiful pieces and wanted to continue the work at home – hence the creation of K&K Designs in Glass,” Susan, an interior designer, said in an email. This will be the family’s second year at Winnetka Artisan’s Fair, where they’ll be selling a collection of glass ornaments, pendants, earrings and up-cycled wine bottles that can be used as wine and cheese platters or sushi …
