Suburban Stadiums: Centennial Park's Dog Beach

Pass holders can unleash their canines to dig, roam and frolic in the lakefront sand.

CENTENNIAL PARK'S DOG BEACH Facility and History: Centennial Park and its dog beach sit on more than five acres that was acquired in 1969. The Park District purchased the land from the North Shore Hospital Corp. for $550,000. The site is the southernmost of the Winnetka’s five lakefront parks and is the only Park District facility that has a space designed and reserved for dogs. Suburban Stadiums: Winnetka Golf Club

Growth in the junior golf program spurs operators to upgrade facility for year-round use.

WINNETKA GOLF CLUB Facility and History: In 1914, William H. Langford designed the first nine holes in Winnetka over 30 acres of flood-plain marshland. Eight years later, the Park District added another nine holes. Then, during the Great Depression, Charles D. Wagstaff led another renovation project, turning the course into what it mostly resembles today. Winnetka Golf Club features two different setups: a regular 18-hole par 71 course and a 9-hole par 3 course. The par 3 course hasn’t undergone many changes. All of its bunkers have been restored over the last five years and some of the longer par 3 holes have fairways now. In 2007, the club hired Jacobson Golf Course Design Inc. of Libertyville to do a master plan for the facility. The …

HUBBARD WOODS PARK Famous for its role in Home Alone, Hubbard Woods Park has been a staple in the Winnetka Park District’s spaces. Facility and History: Hubbard Woods Park sits in the center of the Hubbard Woods Business District, adjacent to the Hubbard Woods Metra Station. VILLAGE GREEN Envisioned as land that would remain forever green, the Village Green has remained as a playable open area in Winnetka for almost 150 years.
