Snow Up to 5” Predicted For Winnetka Tuesday

Wind gusts could reach as high as 40 mph.

  Another snowstorm is headed our way Tuesday and could bring a mixture of freezing rain, sleet and snow.  The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous winter outlook for much of the Chicago suburbs and predicts between three to five inches of new snow accumulation in Winnetka.  "Heavy snow and strong east-northeast winds gusting to 40 miles per hour, especially on the lakefront, will reduce visibility and make travel hazardous," National Weather Service officials said in their winter weather message Sunday night.  The snow is expected to fall Tuesday morning after 9 a.m.  Snow and scattered flurries are expected for the remainder of the week with temperatures hovering around mid-30s during the day.  February to date has been very …

Snow Alert: Slow Down As You Race Home for the Weekend

Expect lake effect snow to slow down your commute Friday night. Illinois Tollway's snow response is expected to focus on I-294/I-80.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook through Friday evening. Snow will continue through Friday evening with two to four inches of snow accumulation possible. If you’re heading home, heavy lake effect snow will occur Friday night with accumulations in excess of 6 inches. Wind chills are also expected to drop below zero Friday night over northern Illinois—the first time this winter. The wind gusts are predicted to whirl at speeds as high as 40 mph. Our friends at the Illinois Tollway have also sent an email blast to news media informing us that tollway's full feet of 183 snowplow trucks will be out in force, throughout the Friday afternoon rush hour. Update: Tollway Has Helped 159 Motorists So Far in Storm

Tollway mobilizing full fleet to prep for storm

Updated Friday 9:10 p.m. The Illinois Tollway has helped 159 motorists so far today, according to a press release. Its trucks will continue to plow overnight to deal with the heavy snowfall. "Once the main roadways are clear, work will begin to remove remaining snow from roadway shoulders, ramps and toll plazas across the 286-mile system," the release said. Updated Friday 3:35 p.m. The Tollway has helped 28 motorists so far in today's storm, according to a press release. Employees have changed tires and batteries, given out fuel and called for tow trucks.
