Phase Two of Skokie Playfield Work Underway

The new playfields will have new baseball fields and synthetic turfs that are expected to generate revenue for the district.

Winnetka Park District has started working on the second phase of Skokie Playfield Master Plan, when complete, the playfields will have four new baseball fields, two synthetic turfs, Winnetka Talk reported.  The district started phase one of the project in July.  The estimated $10 million project includes stormwater management ($3 million), Ball Field work ($2 million), Tennis Center improvement and parking lot ($2.7 million, and rebuilding the golf maintenance center and t=the new parking area ($1.5 million), according to Winnetka Park District’s website.  Some $5 million of the costs will be funded from a 2011 revenue bond that will be repaid over 20 years from the district’s operating income, the remaining costs will be funded from the …

Photo Gallery: Winnetka Celebrates Fall Fest and Whiffle Ball Challege

The Winnetka Park District hosts an autumnal weekend event at Skokie Playfields.

The Skokie Playfields on Hibbard Road played host to family fun and friendly competition as the Winnetka Park District's Fall Fest heralded the fall season. The afternoon began with a family bike ride, Bike Winnetka, which ventured all over town. When guests returned to the Skokie Playfields, they grabbed a lunch of hot dogs and burgers and had a variety of activities to chose from, including inflatable games, the Euro Bungee, face painting and temporary tattoos.  The Whiffle Ball Challenge, a sixteen-team tournament style competition, also debuted on Saturday.
