Armed Robbery Arrest Makes North Shore Stores Feel Safer

A Chicago man has been charged with robberies in Winnetka, Wilmette, Glenview and Northfield.

While local retailers said they were largely unfazed by a spree of armed robberies throughout the North Shore, employees of the victimized stores say they're happy to hear that a suspect has been arrested. “We’re excited about that,” said Alysia Bridges, an employee of Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in Northfield, which was robbed at knife point in late May. “We feel safer.” The store was one of four targeted between May 16 and May 18 by a man with a knife wearing a red hooded sweatshirt with the word “lifeguard” on it. Austin Pierce, 25, 2806 N. Oakley Ave., Chicago, has been charged in the cases. Northfield Candy Store Robbed, Two Other Nearby Stores Targeted

An offender successfully stole cash at both Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory store in Northfield and Yellow Bird Stationary store in Wilmette, and also attempted to rob a store in Glenview.

Northfield, Glenview and Wilmette were all hit with retail robbery this week, according to area police. The spree began Wednesday morning around 10:50 a.m. at Yellow Bird Stationery store in the Plaza Del Lago shopping center. A suspect described as 5 feet, 7 inches tall around 180 pounds with dirty blond hair handed a store clerk a note demanding money.
