Spex in Winnetka Opens its Doors

The designer eyewear store will feature fashion-forward glasses and sunglasses.

Spex — an eyewear and sun wear shop for the fashion-forward glasses-wearer — has opened up a Winnetka location, located at 910 Green Bay Rd., in the Hubbard Woods business district.  "We're extremely excited to greet and warmly welcome our new neighbors," Lauren Bulgatz, marketing assistant at Spex. "The community response to our initial opening has been very strong."  Spex aims to offer customers a variety of eyewear styles and collections from designers such as Beausoleil, Lindberg, Seraphin, OGI Eyewear and Ray-ban. After a five-year delay, the classic-vehicle dealership and high-end repair shop has finally opened.

Saturday’s ribbon cutting at The Galleria introduced locals to a car dealership for auto enthusiasts in a space that looks more like a museum than a garage. The recently-opened Kenilworth business, located at 624 Green Bay Rd., specializes in selling, servicing, storing and restoring classic and luxury vehicles, but the shop’s interior looks like a monument to automotive history. One of the vehicles on display Saturday was a black 1966 Ford Thunderbird Q Code listed at $88,900. The company's website also lists a $159,900 black 1937 Rolls Royce Phantom 3, a $99,900 red 1968 Jaguar E-Type XK-E and a $79,900 blue 1948 Buick Roadmaster as current inventory. Book Store Offers Vintage Goods, Community Convos

The latest addition to the Winnetka shopping district carries some old favorites along with rare finds in a cozy, modern day salon setting.

As the afternoons grow darker faster, Winnekta streets shine bright with the addition of new business. Adding to the glow is the newly-opened Round Table Books. The store's Nov. 18 opening party and ribbon cutting drew around 100 people in from the fall chill. “People have literally been banging on the door to take a look inside,” Arthur Frank, proprietor and managing partner of Round Table, said of the community’s reaction in the weeks before the opening. “I felt good about this neighborhood.  I think people are ready for this type of store.” Related: Think Outside the Box (Stores) Round Table Books carries used and antique books, ranging from the familiar to the extremely rare.
