After a year of planning and construction, the restaurant is expected to open Dec. 4. There are currently locations in Highland Park and Northbrook.
Soon fans of Once Upon a Bagel's lox, soups, potato salad and namesake bagels won't have to travel to Highland Park or Northbrook to get their fix. “We have people who come from Winnetka (to Highland Park) all the time that tell us that they’re waiting for the location to open so they can go there instead of coming all the way out here,” said owner Steve Geffen. Geffen said increased demand from Chicago and throughout the North Shore had made him decide to expand more than a year ago, and that he thought that Winnetka would be a good place to do it. Bobby Dubin worked with a Deerfield-based WeDeal.com to sell discounts to his three Highland Park restaurants, asking for 90 percent of the profit up front. Two weeks later, he closed them all.
Bobby Dubin surprised many this week when he closed his three restaurants — Stashs, 2nd Street Bistro and 2nd Street Enoteca. One person he especially caught off guard was Jordan Heller, the founder and CEO of Deerfield-based WeDeal.com. The news meant that Heller had just lost about $16,000. Heller believes he was intentionally swindled. Dubin says he simply ran out of money when he thought he could hold on a little longer. 'He told me what I needed to hear' Much like Groupon, WeDeal.com is an online company that offers coupons for discounted goods, services and food. Autumn has swept into the Chicagoland area with the fall equinox on Friday morning. Here at Patch HQ, we're thinking about an autumnal celebration with a dinner date night in our town. Cafe Buongiorno is nice for Sunday breakfast, but for lunch and dinner Frank and Betsie's is the place to be. Frank & Betsie's is so wonderful! My husband and I love the desserts so much. Atmosphere is good. more ›
