Quirky Historic Winnetka Home for Sale

The 1920 Lola Maverick Lloyd House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It's for sale for $699,930.

Lola Maverick Lloyd was a social activist whose grandfather's refusal to brand his Texas cattle inspired the term "maverick." So it's no surprise that such a freethinker would build a uniquely charming home. That arts-and-craft-style house on a wooded lot is for sale in Winnetka for $699,930. It has been preserved by her family since she died in 1999. The home, at 455 Birch St., includes a large mural in the living room of a ranch scene, turquoise window trim and lots of hand-carved wooden details and furnishings. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. A 2009 Chicago Magazine article on the home, listed then at $990,000, pointed out the difficulties of buying a protected home that has rehab restrictions in place…

Glencoe Home Joins $4 Million-Plus Club

The home was sold by the estate of the late Florence Boone who was president of the Village of Glencoe from 1976 to 1985.

A home on Longwood Road in Glencoe recently sold for $4.5 million, joining its neighbor at 521 Longwood Road in the $4 million-plus club, according to ChicagoMag.com.  The estate of Florence Boone sold the homes; both sit on the bluff above Lake Michigan and have access to private beach.  The 1.10-acre home at 521 Longwood Rd. sold for $4.7 million in August, while the other sold for $4.5 million in early October, according to ChicagoMag.com  Boone, president of the Village of Glencoe from 1976 to 1985, passed away at 93 years old in April, according to Donnellan Family Funeral Services.  There are currently five properties listed above $4 million in Glencoe, according to RealEstateAOL.com  Love peeking inside luxurious mansions on the …
