Teens Seeking Gently Used Prom Dresses

West Field Old Orchard in Skokie has teamed up with the Glass Slipper Project to help underprivileged high school girls obtain dresses for the upcoming prom year.

The Glass Slipper Project, a nonprofit that helps underprivileged high school girls obtain prom dresses, has teamed up with Westfield Old Orchard, the group announced on Wednesday. The Glass Slipper Project is a locally based non-profit that supplies prom dresses and accessories, free of charge, to those less fortunate.  Westfield Old Orchard will be collecting new and gently-used prom dresses and accessories through the month of March.  Additionally, to help raise awareness, Old Orchard joined forces with the local fashion programs at Niles North, Niles West and New Trier high schools.  Teams of fashion students created prom-inspired fashion sculptures in conjunction with Oak Street Design, another participant in the partnership. New Trier Hopes for Best, Prepares for Worst at Prom

Saturday night's prom returns to the Hyatt Regency downtown with an uptick in attendance, as school takes safety precautions.

This Saturday night, New Trier High School – after a one-year hiatus – returns to the downtown Hyatt Regency Chicago to stage its junior and senior prom. It’s a return to a traditional venue, after last year's prom was moved to Rosemont for financial reasons. More than 1,200 tickets have been sold for this year’s gathering, according to Gail Gamrath, an adviser to the girls of the junior class. This represents a sharp increase of about 100 additional tickets compared to last year's attendance at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. Some said that the heightened interested can be traced to the new opportunity for students to get into the city.
