Seven New Trier Football Players Named All Conference
The Trevians had a mediocre season, but some players excelled.
Seven New Trier Trevian football players were recently named to the Central Suburban League All-Conference Team. The Trevians finished second in the Central Suburban League South division with a 6-3 regular season record before bowing out in the first fournd of the state playoffs to Conant High School. Glenbrook South Defeats New Trier 21-10
Following a slow start, Glenbrook South defeats New Trier convincingly to start 2-0 in conference.
The Glenbrook South Titans were guaranteed for a slow start as they hosted the New Trier Trevians Friday night. Why? The Titans did not run a single offensive play in the first quarter. New Trier took the opening drive and went on a 17 play drive that ate up 10:16 and ended it in a field goal. The Titans fumbled the following kickoff and New Trier ran 20 plays in the first quarter compared to Glenbrook South's zero. "You have to give New Trier credit," GBS head coach Mike Noll said. "They were ready to play right away. Once we relaxed a bit, we played smarter and better." GBS settled down midway through the second quarter. The Trevian senior linebacker sets sights on this year's conference championship.
Trevian Sam Scherer, New Trier's senior football star, is known by his coaches to have multiple personalities—one on the field and another off it. After starting last season, the New Trier coaching staff got a glimpse of Scherer’s Jekyl and Hyde act. It's a skill he's developed while playing inside linebacker for the Trevians. On the field he’s ferocious, loves to hit people and has a knack for the ball. Off the field he’s a good student, involved in the community and the kind of kid father’s want their daughters to date, according to the Trevians’ defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, Brent Becker.
