Jennifer Spinney pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol at the Cook County Circuit Court on Friday.

Winnetka Trustee Jennifer Spinney pleaded guilty to DUI Friday, having been pulled over in September and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane usage and improper turning.  Spinney pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol, which means she must pay a $1,329 fine, be under supervision for one year, attend a victim impact panel and have a suspended license for a period of time. The Cook County Circuit Court clerk's office in Skokie said it's unclear how long her license will be suspended. The remaining charges of improper lane usage and improper turning were dismissed.  Spinney was charged with driving under the influence and traffic violations after officers said they saw her driving erratically in…

Winnetka Trustee Jennifer Spinney was in court today following her September DUI arrest.

Winnetka Trustee Jennifer Spinney made a brief appearance in court Monday in her DUI case, before the hearing was pushed back until Feb. 1. Neither Spinney nor her attorney would comment after she appeared in front of Judge Larry G. Axelrood at the Cook County Circuit Courthouse in Skokie Monday morning. This is the second time her court date has been pushed back. She has not yet entered a plea in the case. Liberty: I also called the situation a mistake. I made no mention of her politcal affiliation in this town. I think the root words here are small town smugness. If you were my neighbor and made a similar mistake I'd make certain the entire neighborhood knew about your situation repeatedly. I'd share every gory detail with my family and make certain to pile on to your misery. I'd cloak my …   more ›

How Big of a Deal is a DUI?

In 2010, adults drank too much and got behind the wheel about 112 million times, according to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report.

Winnetka Trustee Jennifer Spinney’s arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol has sparked a debate on Patch, with some people seemingly downplaying the incident and others saying they hope she’s publically shamed as a way of making others think before getting behind the wheel when they’ve had too much to drink.  According to Skokie police, who pulled her over, Spinney told them that she is "not a criminal," but "a drunk driver.”  Some readers commented that even though DUI is a serious offense Spinney did not hurt anyone in the process.  “Ms. Spinney will pay for this mistake. Let’s not take away from her character. She has served the Village of Winnetka for two years and made great changes in the town,” Patrick wrote. “She makes …

Hahahaha What a rube. Just another example of stupidity. This woman needs to be kicked off the board. I don't drive drunk. There is no excuse ever. Thank God she didn't hit any of my family members or anyone. Lol She peed her pants. My son posted this story in several important websites so they will show up as top searches for years to come. This fool deserves no sympathy but maybe fresh …   more ›

Winnetka's Sanitary Sewer Work Could Begin this Fall

Winnetka plans to launch a pilot program to analyze and repair the areas that experienced the most storm water flooding.

The Winnetka Village Council voiced support at the Aug. 21 meeting for a $75,000 pilot program that would examine and repair the sanitary sewers in the areas of the village worst hit by last year’s flooding. Engineering firm Strand Associates had originally suggested beginning work in spring 2013, but Village Engineer Steve Saunders said that an immediate limited launch would allow Winnetka to gather more data on how intense the repair project will be before committing to more work. Strand went through a similar process to identify and repair defects in the city of Wood Dale’s system. “We really have no idea what we're going to find in terms of public repair needs in our sanitary sewer system and, if we fix those, how much private …

Braun, Spinney, Kates Elected to Winnetka Village Board

Jessica Tucker was also reelected to serve another term as village president.

Jennifer Spinney, Arthur Braun and Richard Kates were elected to the Winnetka Village Board on Tuesday night. Village President Jessica Tucker, who ran unopposed, was elected to a second term. Linda Pedian was not elected to serve a second term on the board. She had 1,129 votes -- 268 less than Richard Kates, who had the third most votes. A campaign by the Winnetka Home Owners Association supported the three other candidates and lobbied against Pedian because she helped write Winnetka's affordable housing plan. "It was my privilege to serve Winnetka. I am proud to have been useful to this wonderful village," Linda Pedian said in an email Tuesday night. Jennifer Spinney, whose candidacy was challenged this winter by Kates, won re-election …

Big defeat for the Progressive Democrats that rule the Caucus. If you don't believe me. Take a look at the vote results. The Progressives realized that they had no chance of defeating Spinney. She received less than 1% of the votes that Braun received in leading the ticket. Instead the Progressives withheld their votes from Kates, a Caucus candidate, in a feeble attempt to get their candidate …   more ›

Winnetka Village Trustee Candidate Q&A: Jennifer Spinney

Get to know the candidates before the April 5 election.

On April 5, Winnetka voters will vote for three candidates for village trustee. The candidates on the ballot are Richard Kates, Linda Pedian, Jennifer Spinney and Arthur Braun. Below is a Q&A with Jennifer Spinney. For information on the rest of the candidates, check Winnetka-Glencoe Patch this week. Winnetka-Glencoe Patch: How would you assess the state of the village’s budget? Jennifer Spinney: It is a matter of public record that the village budget is sound. Patch: If expenses need to be reduced, exactly what would you cut? Spinney: Fortunately, we don’t need to cut anything. I want to see the village remain fiscally conservative as it has been for years. We have envious reserves and can use those reserves for projects such as flood …

Judge: Spinney Stays on Ballot

Following months of dispute, a Cook County judge threw out two of the candidate's signatures and accepted the rest.

Jennifer Spinney will appear on the ballot as a Winnetka village trustee candidate April 5 after a county judge upheld her candidacy Tuesday. Spinney, who has served as a village trustee for the past two years, is seeking reelection independently after the Winnetka Caucus left her out of its picks for three open seats on the village board.  The caucus chose instead Arthur Braun, incumbent Linda Pedian, and Richard Kates, an attorney active in village politics. It was Kates who challenged Spinney's candidacy in December, alleging that her nominating petitions were rife with errors. (Election law requires a candidate to provide petitions with 290 signatures from registered voters in order to appear on the ballot.) Spinney turned in 34 more …

Spinney Remains On Ballot With 292 Valid Signatures

The municipal electoral board concluded its hearing Monday on the objections to Jennifer Spinney's candidate nomination signatures.

With just two signatures over the required minimum, Winnetka Trustee Jennifer Spinney's name will appear on the April 5 ballot. At a hearing Monday night, the municipal electoral board -- Village President Jessica Tucker, Village Manager Rob Bahan and Trustee E. King Poor -- ruled on disputed signatures and addresses on Spinney's candidate filing petitions. The board ultimately determined 292 valid signatures on the petitions -- two more than the 290 required. “What makes me happy is the residents here have the ability to have four people and choose three candidates,” Spinney said after the hearing. Spinney, who is running independently, will be included with the three trustee candidates slated by the Winnetka Caucus: Richard Kates, Linda …

It is a sad commentary that the Village of Winnetka Caucus believes that Mr Kates is a best candidate to to be slated. Not only is it distasteful that a slated candidate attempts to disqualify and disenfranchise Winnetka residents of their voice, undoubtedly he has needlessly cost the Village of Winnetka thousands of dollars in legal fees. Let the voters decide Mr. Kates, and may the BEST persons…   more ›
