Watch 12-12-12 Concert Live on Patch

The concert will benefit Hurricane Sandy victims, via the Robin Hood Foundation.

Some of the biggest names in music take the stage at Madison Square Garden for the live 12-12-12 concert for Sandy relief. While thousands of people fill the arena, billions are watching live on a variety of screens worldwide.  The concert is streaming live on television networks, movie theater screens and on the Internet, including right here on Patch. The pre-event coverage begins at 3 p.m. CST and the concert is scheduled to kick off at 6:30 p.m. The all-star lineup includes Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton, Dave Grohl, Billy Joel, Alicia Keys, Chris Martin, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Eddie Vedder, Roger Waters, Kanye West, The Who, and Paul McCartney, with other artists to be announced. Local Synagogues Aid Hurricane Sandy Victims

Temple Beth-El in Northbrook and Temple Jeremiah in Northfield collected coats, diapers, batteries and cleaning supplies for Aberdeen, N.J. victims of Hurricane Sandy.

The information below comes from Temple Beth-El. The suburbs of Chicago are far removed from the devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy. The Human Needs Committee of Congregation Solel made a large donation to the Temple Israel Reform Congregation Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund. Temple Israel is on Staten Island and it was one of the areas hardest hit.   more ›

Hurricane Sandy Death Toll Nears 100

As a number of east coast states attempt to get back on their feet after Hurricane Sandy ripped through their towns, the death toll has been identified at 92 people.

As superstorm Hurricane Sandy ripped through a number of east coast towns across several states, the death toll late Thursday was identified at 92 people, according to CNN.  There are shortages of fuel and of food, CNN reports, in addition to 3.3 million customers without power across 15 states and in Washington D.C.  Among the many tragic victim stories; one woman's body was washed up on shore in Long Island, NY, and two boys were ripped from their mother's arms as she tried to get to higher ground Thursday, NBC news reports.   Check out video of devastation from Ocean City Patch in Ocean City, New Jersey, as well as a photo gallery of damage there the first day after the storm.  Related Article: Want to follow similar articles? Sign up …

Hurricane Sandy's Wrath Hits Lake Michigan

While Hurricane Sandy is expected to mostly bombard the East Coast, the North Shore isn't exempt from its aftermath.  The National Weather Service has issued a gale watch in effect from Monday to Tuesday night, with winds of 60 mph expected along the shoreline.  Read the full rundown of North Shore weather warnings here.  We braved the winds this afternoon to get some photos and a video of the waves at Lake Forest Beach. O'Hare Has Flight Emergency Advisory In Effect

While the airport braces for Hurricane Sandy and Frankenstorm on the East Coast, check for flight cancellations expected to occur over the next few days.

While the East Coast girds for power outages and damage from Hurricane Sandy, officials at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport could be bracing for their own flood of issues. O'Hare has issued an airport emergency advisory and warned service will be limited due to severe weather in parts of the country.  About 5,000 flights have already been canceled nationwide, with an unknown number connected to O'Hare. Thousands more were expected to be grounded Monday and Tuesday, according to Huffington Post. High Winds, Huge Waves Expected Here Thanks to Hurricane Sandy

While the East Coast will get the brunt of the huge storm, the weather system also is prompting gale watch on Lake Michigan. Winds up to 60 mph and waves up to 22 feet are forecast.

As residents on the East Coast prepare for the arrival of Hurricane Sandy, the National Weather Service is warning of high waves and winds on Lake Michigan as well. The service has issued a gale watch in effect Monday night through Tuesday. The watch will be in effect for a stretch of the lake that starts in Sheboygan, WI, goes through Illinois and Indiana, and ends up at South Haven, MI. The affected area will be from 5 nautical miles from the shoreline to about the middle of the lake, the weather service said. Winds up to 60 mph are expected along the lakeshore from late Monday through Tuesday evening, according to the National Weather Service.
